Buckingham palace in winter,

Buckingham palace

Located in the City of Westminster, Buckingham palace is certainly a historical landmark in London that requires no introduction. Since 1837, the palace served as the official residence for Britain's sovereigns and continues to serve as the administrative headquarters of the Monarch today. It is also used as a venue for state occasions and royal hospitality, such as official receptions by the Queen. Part of the palace opens during summer, which you can check it out here.

I came back to the palace to wander about in its vicinity for a couple more times during my stay in London, the summer sight is gorgeous! But while the winter was bitter cold and rather gloomy, the crowd of visitors were nonetheless very enthused about the catching glimpses of the world famous guards and trying to spot out any form of commotion from within the palace.

Got in touch with an internet friend before I flew to the UK and we decided to meet up at Buckingham palace before classes started. She's a sweet Hongkong girl doing engineering, and we clicked immediately in a common goal to wander and stay warm. A nearby tea kiosk saves the day and rekindles my faith in surviving winter! Armed with my tea, we walk on in awe of the majestic palace and the slow-dying trees around. I feel every part of my body inching towards any glimpse of a sun ray.

Erected just in front of the palace gates, the Victoria Memorial is a charming centre piece of the park. It was sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock in 1911.

Spent the rest of our time seeking warmth from a cuppa tea and sitting on the marble slabs whilst watching the world go by until we could take the cold no longer. Ducked into a warm souvenir shop before heading down to Victoria train station for a pizza buffet.
